Is laughter really the best medicine? The adage that tells us it is has been around just a few days short of forever. In reality, there is medical research that does confirm that laughter, as part of an overall attitude, is really good for people. And it's directly related to the ideas that make positive thinking workable because people who are predominantly negative, rarely laugh too. Positive people, however, tend to laugh and smile a lot and that tells us something important.

Laughter has many of the benefits of positive thinking. It serves to reduce stress, tension and depression by expanding our blood vessels which in turn deliver more blood to various areas of our bodies. It also helps to reduce the amount of hormones released when we are stressed out, reduces muscle tension and helps to improve our immune systems. Medical science has shown that positive thinking accomplishes the same beneficial things.

Laughter has a very significant effect in fighting mental stress, anxiety, insomnia, depression and reduces our need for anti-depressant medications. And you might note that 15 or 20 minutes of laughter and smiles can leave you feeling refreshed and energetic for several hours afterward.

The plain truth is that laughter and positive thinking are both indicators of our mood and attitude and make a contribution to improving it at the same time. In fact, many individuals who have successfully made the transition from a predominantly negative mindset to a positive one, have reported that they laugh much more than they did in the 'old days.' Remember that it takes thirteen muscles to smile and fifty muscles to frown! And also that laughter is another form of positive affirmation straight out of the books on positive thinking. It's good for your body and even better for your state of mind. Did you ever notice that small children laugh a lot and at just about anything? Of course they do because there is nothing negative in their lives that lasts more than a few minutes. Their conscious and subconscious minds are pretty much a clean slate where life has not yet written any negative attitudes. In adults, laughter and positive thinking will go a long way toward erasing some of the negatives that were written there long ago.

Well now could there ever be a better tag-team that could help uplift your spirits than the one of laughter and positive thoughts?
