Health in positive thinking

Medical science has only recently acknowledged the important role that the human mind plays in maintaining health and well being throughout life. Moreover, the role that positive thinking plays has also been shown to be a fact in recent university studies that actually measured how muscles are affected by both the negative and positive thinking of test subjects. Add to this fast accumulating database of facts the findings of Yale University which showed that people with an optimistic attitude lived 7.5 years longer than those with negative attitudes and outlooks. Their studies also concluded that having a bright outlook on life could be more important even than lower cholesterol levels and lower blood pressure readings. Given these findings, it is fairly simple to conclude that positive thinking is beneficial and negative thinking is not just as Dr. Norman Vincent Peale said more than sixty years ago when he became he first major proponent of positive thinking. Being a positive thinker does not necessarily mean that you have to be a totally outgoing, bubbly personality because this type of person may tend to take excessive risks that can be harmful and injurious to good health. It does, however, mean having a positive outlook and self talk in lieu of a negative mindset. If you are a person with a positive outlook you will be healthier as you get older. Very few of the challenges that you will face along the road of life will appear overwhelming to you. Perhaps most important, you will believe that your positive mindset will influence your overall health in a positive way and that you will be in constant control of your life. Of course no doctor can guarantee that positive thinking alone will allow you to never be sick and live past 100. There are physical maladies that can prevent this along with your genetic history. What they do know is that when you embrace positive thinking, it will make an important contribution to your health and well being that will aid in long life too. If you are not a basically positive personality to begin with, positive thinking training can still work for you, but it will be harder and require more time and effort. Things like pain, anxiety, depression will make it hard to fully embrace positivity without lots of practice, and consuling with your doctor or a trained psychologist will help. There is also a good amount of inspirational information available on the Internet and most of it is free. It can play a very-helpful role in showing you how to benefit from positive thinking for better health.
