Positive Thinking

Many have said that the real importance of positive thinking lies in its ability to give you happiness, inner serenity, satisfaction, good health and business success. And many advocates that changed their lives after a commitment to positive outlooks certainly attest to the fact that it works. Still others, who we'll call the 'antis' feel the entire concept is a myth that permits 'self delusional' believers to escape from the realities of life that they would prefer not to face and therefore can avoid dealing with altogether. We all know that anyone can look at any situation in different ways. Is the glass half empty or half full? But most medical doctors and psychologists will readily admit that having a positive attitude is considerably more beneficial than being negative. It's also fairly clear just in terms of common sense that a pleasant, outgoing person is far better to deal with on any level than a sourpuss who walks around with a little rainstorm hanging over his head. Positive thinking can be contagious. There's no doubt that the people you associate with can usually sense your moods and respond accordingly; most of us would rather be around a pleasant individual with a bright outlook. Moreover, if you are somewhat 'down' over one or more personal situations, the positive person can help you break out of your doldrums and put a smile back on your face. The negative person, on the other hand, can affect you with his apathy and despondency, That's catching too. It's easy to begin thinking positively. All the knowledge, beliefs and feelings we have come from our thoughts, both conscious and subconscious. It's up to us to decide how we look at things. We can be positive, negative or anything in between. Most of our current attitudes come from history, ideas we've developed interfacing with our parents, teachers, friends and others. We constantly think about them either consciously or subconsciously. So we have to decide that we want to think differently. Positively, even if we're not used to doing so. We need to make a commitment to change, learn to keep focused on things that matter and look at the bright side, not the reverse. We also have to challenge ourselves to take advantage of opportunities and try instead of deciding, "it just won't work out." We need, above all else, to strive to win in life, not just accept what is. Positive thinking can and will become a habit that overrides the old ways of looking at things. We just have to decide that is how it's going to best serve us. Try it! The proof of the pudding will be in how much things change for you and also in how much happier you've become.
